On the Monday and Tuesday before our Halloween midterm I competed at 2 day martial arts course in the sports hall. We came in in our P.E. gear and started at 8:45 and ended the day at 3:45. We started the course with basic punches and kicks and gradually built it up to different combos including elbows, blocks, kicks and punches.
We had 8 lines of people with one person on a pad in front of each line and would take turns swapping in and out with the pad. At the start I was hesitant to hit as hard as I could because we were only getting used to the blocks and didn't want to hurt someone. Eventually by the time we were used to blocking we started to hit properly and because we were fully going for it there were very few injuries.
On the second day I learnt to disarm someone with a gun and with a knife or baseball bat. It was hard at first but I learned how to do it and now I'd feel much more confident if I was put in a situation like that. To finish off the day we had an examination which consisted of kicks, elbows, blocks, takedowns, running and push-ups.
To conclude this was a very interesting course and I learned a lot from it. It has been a great experience and was a great course to do in TY.
