On the 4th of december i did a week of community service in Open Door in Bray. I took the bus in every morning at 8:30 so would i be in there at 9 and i left work at 3. I did the week with 2 guys from my school Ben and Colin.
On the first morning we didn't really know what we were doing because we had never been in a daycare for people with disabilities. soon enough we were emerged in their way of life and we started talking to them and finding out about their life stories. One of the guys that attended open door had a really sad life story. He was in his early 20's when he was in a motorbike accident and was put in a coma for a year and broke his voice box. For a man that was so unlucky in life he was full of humour and fun. This guy was just one of many with a story like this.
I had never had the chance to talk to someone with disabilities such as himself so this was a really powerful experience. I thoroughly enjoyed my week there as we helped people write christmas cards to loved ones and helped them do their daily excercises.
To conclude this week was an amazing experience and would love to do something like that again.
