On the week commencing the 6th of November I did a week of work experience in the kitchen in avoca. I didn't really know what to expect going into the his work experience but I went in open minded and really enjoyed the work experience. I was in the pastry/desserts section of the kitchen.
On the first morning I was assigned to wash dishes for the first hour but after that they made me make a wide range of things from Carrot cakes to custard tarts. Every day I was assigned to make Madeleine's in the morning because the head of the pastry kitchen loved the way I made them.
For lunch the people working in the sandwich area very kindly made me a sandwich and a cup of tea and I headed up to the staff room to enjoy a 30 minute break.
The most treacherous job I was assigned to do was to crack 800 eggs in a row. This was time consuming but I didn't mind as I had done very few boring jobs. The staff were excellent and the people that worked there were very nice and always offered a helping hand. On the final day I recieved a cook book and few cakes to bring home for the work I had done. I also got to try almost everything I made.
This was a great first work experience and I really enjoyed myself.
